Dr. Patricia Snyder, Ph.D., Principal Investigator
Dr. Snyder holds the David Lawrence Endowed Chair in Early Childhood Studies at the University of Florida. Prior to joining the faculty at the University of Florida in Fall of 2007, Dr. Snyder was Professor of Pediatrics and Director of Research, Center for Child Development (CCD), at Vanderbilt University Medical Center and formerly Associate Dean for Research and Graduate Studies and Director of the Early Intervention Institute at LSU Health Sciences Center. Dr. Snyder was the editor of the Journal of Early Intervention from 2002-2007 and currently serves as an associate editor for Topics in Early Childhood Special Education. She was a methodological consultant to the Division for Early Childhood Recommended Practices project. Dr. Snyder is principal investigator for the embedded instruction project funded by the Institute of Education Sciences (IES) and co-principal investigator for TEIDS Plus, an IES-funded project focused on improving the quality of individualized family service plans in Part C early intervention. Dr. Snyder is co-investigator for an IES-funded project focused on examining the potential efficacy of a classroom-wide model for promoting social emotional development and addressing challenging behavior in preschool children.

Mary Louise Hemmeter, Ph.D., Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Hemmeter is an Associate Professor in the Department of Special Education at Vanderbilt University. She has been involved in a number of federally funded research projects on effective instruction, promoting children's social-emotional development, and preventing challenging behavior. Currently, she is the principal investigator for an IES-funded project focused on examining the potential efficacy of a classroom-wide model for promoting social emotional development and addressing challenging behavior in preschool children. She is the principal investigator and director of the Center on the Social and Emotional Foundations for Early Learning. She is co-principal investigator of the embedded instruction project. Dr. Hemmeter is an associate editor for the Journal of Early Intervention.

Susan Sandall, Ph.D., Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. Sandall is an Associate Professor who specializes in EI/ECSE with research interests in effective intervention in natural inclusive environments; social skills, play, and communication of young children; the changing roles of teachers; and effective instructional strategies. She is consultant to the OSEP funded Bridging-the-Gap project and is assisting with development of interactive modules to support recommended practices. She is the co-author of DEC Recommended Practices in Early Intervention/Early Childhood Special Education (2005), and Building Blocks for Teaching Preschoolers with Special Needs (2002).

Mary McLean, Ph.D., Co-Principal Investigator

Dr. McLean is Professor of Early Childhood Special Education and Director of the Early Childhood Research Center, University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee. Drs. McLean and Odom led the initial 1993 work on the DEC Recommended Practices and she was an Investigator on the 1998 OSEP Recommended Practice project. She conducted the national field validations for both the initial and the revised DEC Recommended Practices. Dr. McLean served as an Investigator on the Culturally and Linguistically Appropriate Practices Early Childhood Research Center (Project CLAS) and on the Increasing Children's Learning Opportunities through Families and Communities Early Childhood Research Center.

Larry Edelman, M.S., Instructional Design Specialist

Mr. Edelman, senior consultant in instructional design and training, is a Senior Instructor in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Colorado and Health Sciences Center. Mr. Edelman has assisted hundreds of agencies and organizations with training and development, facilitation, and systemic change activities related to early care and education, early intervention, health, education, and developmental disabilities organizations. He has written, edited, and designed dozens of training and educational materials and programs that have been adopted throughout the United States and internationally.
